Care Instructions
Each Eat Your Fiber knit is handmade with love from materials that are carefully chosen for qualities such as durability, hand feel, and environmental impact. In exchange for the amazing look and feel of these fabrics, some special care is required. If you want your knit to survive to clothe generations of children, or be eligble for the Eat Your Fiber Upcycle Program, please follow the instructions below!
Hand Wash
Wool has lanolin in it, which naturally keeps it clean. This means that it does not soil as quickly as other fabrics, so you can go for long periods of time (months!!) between washes, even if you wear the item frequently. Simply spot clean with a damp cloth as needed between washes.
The Pinto Beanie is a hand wash only item, and NEVER put it in the dryer. To hand wash your knit, fill a clean sink or basin with lukewarm water and, using a wool detergent such as Soak, gently submerge and massage the item, then rinse (unless using a no rinse soap), and lay flat to dry in shape. Check out the video at eatyourfiber.ca or @eat.your.fiber for more details on hand washing.
Pilling
Pilling is natural for woolen items, especially when new. The Pinto Beanie in particular may get quite fluffy, but don’t worry, the pilling will reduce over time. Use a wool fabric comb if you wish to remove or reduce pills, but never pull them off.
Storage
Air your knits out after use and store folded (not hung) between wears. Freshen them by hanging in the bathroom during a hot shower or outside in the morning.
