The Pinto Beanie Knitting Pattern
Notes:
This is a COLD weather hat. In super chunky wool it is super warm. It is also very easy and fast to knit, so if you're a beginner and winter is coming – no worries!
Knit bottom up in one piece with a simple decrease round to form the crown.
Finished Circumference: 12" (31 cm), (14" (33 cm), ((16" (41 cm)), (18" (46 cm)) after blocking
Finished Length (with brim unfolded): 8" (20 cm), (9" (23 cm)), (11" (28 cm)), (12" (31 cm)) after blocking
Gauge: 12 sts x 16 rows = 10 x 10 cm / 4 x 4” in pattern on a 10 mm / US15 needle after blocking
Needles: 10 mm (US15) 16”/ 10-40 cm circular needle or DPNS
Yarn: 48 g (36m), (64g (48m)), (100g (75m)), (140 g (105m)) of Fire, Wool Addict by Lang Yarns or another super bulky (6) weight yarn that achieves the right gauge.
The 0-6 months Pinto Beanie fits a head size from 13-17” (33 - 43 cm). and the 6 months - 3 year Pinto Beanie fits a head size from 16-20” (41 -51 cm) . The Small Adult sized Pinto Beanie fits a head anywhere from 19.5” to 22”, the Adult Large fits a head anywhere from 23-25”. The Small Adult should pretty much fit most children over 4 and women. The Large Adult Pinto Beanie should generally fit most men.
Kid's have alarmingly big heads so there’s a good chance you can put an adult Pinto Beanie on a 4 year old and just share one for the household - but measure if you want a precise fit! They will also start out a bit snug and soften up with wear. Pictured is the adult size on a 6 year old and the 2-4 year old size on a 20 month old. Sorry we don’t have photos on a teeny baby yet!
